"Eat Sleep Die" is Sweden's 2013 entry for the Oscars

Gabriela Pichler’s multi-award winning "Eat Sleep Die" ("Äta sova dö") has been chosen to compete for an Academy Award nomination as Best Foreign-Language Feature.

"Eat Sleep Die" centres on 20-year-old Rasa who lives with her father in a small village in the southernmost Swedish province of Skåne. Rasa works in a factory, but when it makes redundancies she loses her job.

The film had its international premiere at Venice Critic's Week 2013 where it won the Audience Award, and has since then been on a successful festival run, playing at festivals such as Toronto, Busan, Warsaw and Karlovy Vary. The film and its lead actress Nermina Lukač have received a number of festival awards, and at the Berlin International Film Festival this year Lukač was selected as a Shooting Star.

At the Swedish national film awards - the Guldbagge Awards - in January, it won the awards for Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress in a Leading Role. The film is currently nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize 2013.

"Eat Sleep Die" is Gabriela Pichler's debut feature.

The Oscars' jury is set to announce its selection of films to compete for Best Foreign Language Film on 16 January, 2014. The awards ceremony will take place on 2 March.
